Federal law REQUIRES that all young men reaching
age 18 register with Selective Service. You can register online by
clicking on the link to the left. If you're 17, you can also register, and when you turn 18, you'll be registered automatically.
The registration requirement includes all male citizens and male non-citizens who
are permanent residents.
Young men must register with Selective Service in order to be eligible for many
federal and state programs and benefits: student loans and grants, government jobs,
vocational training under the Job Training Partnership Act. Non-citizens stay eligible
for citizenship.
